About Us

BATTLEFIELD FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT

The Battlefield Fire Protection District is a political subdivision established in 1985 pursuant to RSMo Chapter 321. We are located in Greene County, in Southwest Missouri, protecting a 32 square mile portion of the outskirts of Springfield in the Metropolitan Statistical Area. The District protects a largely residential area of approximately 70,000 to 80,000 residents with addresses in Republic, Springfield, Ozark, & Nixa. The District also protects the entire City of Battlefield. Our projected revenue for 2022 is $3.5 million. The District’s Public Protection Classification (PPC) is ISO Class 2.

The District operates from four fire stations, three of which have 24-hour career staffing. We have 43 firefighters, including the administrative Chief Officers, and two support staff totaling 45 personnel. Currently, the District staffs two pumpers, one aerial apparatus, one rescue, three brush trucks, and a shift commander SUV. In addition to the staffed apparatus, the District has a water rescue boat, a reserve engine, and several additional auxiliary vehicles that are staffed as needed.

Annually, our personnel respond to more than 3,000 calls for assistance.  On average, 60% or more of those responses are calls for medical assistance.  Along with BLS medical response, we provide fire suppression, vehicle rescue, environmental protection, and technical rescue responses.  With our proximity to large rivers, local lakes, and areas prone to flooding, we also house one of the area’s three swift water rescue teams.

The District is well respected in the community for the high level of skill our members maintain. This skill level is achieved through rigorous physical and professional development training which our members enjoy participating in on a daily basis. Our training facility offers a variety of training opportunities to our personnel, the public, and the regional fire service community including an Emergency Medical Technician: Basic program offered twice year.

The District is also well respected for the work that our members do in community risk reduction (CRR). This includes public outreach and education, building alliances with local groups and organization that can assist our at risk population, and assisting the community with risk reduction practices.
